Changing Place Toilet and Changing Room
Located within the ground floor poolside changing village, we have a changing places toilet and shower available. Changing places toilets are larger accessible facilities, including a changing bench and a hoist, designed to support disabled people. The features include adjustable bench. and a full coverage hoist.
Inclusive Swimming
This open session is designed for people with disabilities and their carers and family members in a friendly and safe environment. Pool hoist assisted entry to the pool and easy access steps available.
It is a dementia friendly session with no music for sensory sensitivities.
The session has a reduced capacity and includes access to all swimming pools, Main Pool, Learner Pool and Splash Pad.
Ages: All ages, under 8's must be accompanied by an adult. Carers can attend for free and do not need to book in.
Times: Thursdsay 11:50-12:40
Sports hall activities
Working with local partners we deliver inclusive Sports Hall activities throughout tthe week. These are suitable for all abilities and are desigined to encourage physical, social and mental wellness.
Boocia: Tuesday: 9am-11am, Wednesday:6:30pm-7:30pm
Wheelchair Pickleball: Sunday 9am-11am
Wheelchair Basketball: Saturday 9am-12pm
Inclusive gym
Our Inclusive Gym session aim to reduce the sensory load for people who want to coe to the gym but find the normal noise and lighting associated with a fitness environment overstimulating or offputting for any reason.
During our Inclucive Gym sessions the will have:
-Reduce capacity to avoid the area being crowded
-A conistant member of staff so that customers can build a rapport
-The music will be of for the duration of the session
-Carers can enter free if not using the gym
Gym equipment
Working with the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) The Sands Leisure Centre has a number of ‘IFI Accredited’ fitness equipment within the gym. IFI Equipment is fully inclusive enabling both disabled and non-disabled people to benefit from a full body, cardiovascular and resistance-based workout. Equiptment includes IFI Bikes, Arm bike, and inclusive resistance machines
The Well Communities
We partner with The Well Communities to enable them to deliver their 12 step rehabilitation program.
Better provide Health and Fitness space for the program to enable participant to develop their physical wellbeing.
Bee Unique
Alongside our partners at Bee Unique, we provide inclusive pool sessions in our 20m pool with a movable floor. This sessions is designed to reduce the sensory load as much as posisble and with the movable floor the sessions can be tailored to the needs of the group.
