?10th February marks only 10 days until applications for the GLL Sport Foundation close?

Applications are welcomed from aspiring athletes in Hackney for the free gym memberships and bursaries offered by the programme which has fostered talent up and down the country.

The GLL Sport Foundation (GSF) was launched 17 years ago by leisure operator and charitable social enterprise GLL, with the aim of supporting talented young athletes with funding and practical help.

GLL operate the leisure facilities in Hackney - under the ‘Better’ brand.

The programme continues to widen and deepen the opportunities that come through sport across all communities.

In 2024, GSF supported 58 athletes in Hackney with a cumulative value of over £36,000.

Caroline Woodley, Mayor of Hackney, said  “The GSF Awards provide a vital range of support and opportunities to help aspiring young athletes, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds, pursue their sporting dreams. This includes free access to Hackney’s brilliant range of BETTER sport and leisure facilities, that we are proud to manage in partnership with GLL.”

According the GSF research, a lack of money to compete in their favourite sport is the biggest threat to the sporting dreams of young people. Most people agree more should be done to support Britain’s talented young athletes achieve sporting success for the opportunities and national pride that stem from this.
