Since ‘Festive Stars and Hearts for Grenfell’ began in December 2021, Kensington Leisure Centre have been a staunch supporter of this fun, free Christmas Community Arts project organised by the Grenfell Health and Wellbeing Service (GHWS). The Arts project visits organisations north and south of the borough to provide opportunities for Christmas decorations to be made by local residents.

On Tuesday 3rd December 2024, Kensington Leisure Centre hosted the making and painting of the stars and hearts, giving the local community the chance to make one in memory of Grenfell. This inclusive community activity generated much excitement in the reception area of the Kensington Leisure Centre. The project tables were surrounded by talented, excited and creative participants of all ages who decorated a wooden star and heart, then took one home and left one to decorate the Kensington Leisure Centre Christmas tree. The event was an amazing success and you can see the beautiful and unique decorations on the Christmas tree in the reception area. Over the years that the project has run people have visited the centre to see the display and read the messages on the decorations. It is a great event that the centre is proud to host and helps to get the local residents involved with decorating the centre for Christmas.

The Grenfell Community Connector for The Grenfell Health and Wellbeing Service said…

‘The event was an amazing success with fantastic and unique decorations created. GLL staff had great fun decorating the tree with over 50 unique stars or hearts from the event.

A big thank you to Kensington Leisure Centre for hosting and supporting this wonderful Christmas event and the GLL staff who assisted on the day. Very much appreciated.’
