Senior Activities

These sessions will include fun activities that have a sporting as well as a social element: working on improving balance, co-ordination and strength - benefiting both your physical and mental health; while finding new acquaintances that could build into long term friendships.
You will find activities available throughout the week, or join our social Seniors Hub on Mondays. 

  

WEDNESDAY'S SENIORS HUB

Join Liv every Wednesday for our Seniors Hub. Whether or not you attend one -or more- of our activities on Wednesdays mornings, stop by the Senior Hub for a chat and a complimentary tea or coffee.

This is a place where Seniors over 66 can meet, socialise, and stay active, while participating in various games led by our lovely instructor Liv -it could be a game of skittles, a basic circuit, board games... and Table Tennis is also available!

You don't have to pay or be a member to attend the Senior Hub between 2.45pm-4pm, and can just turn up at the centre's reception. If you'd like to join one of our classes, or get into swimming or the gym, please keep reading below: we have listed all activities suitable for seniors during the week! For membership options, please scroll all the way to the bottom of this page.

If you're already a member, please do not hesitate to invite your friends or family over!

OUR DEDICATED SENIOR ACTIVITIES

Chair exercise

Seated Exercise class

Previously "Generation Gains", Seated Exercise class is a fitness class suitable for adults with reduced mobility.

  • Duration: 45 minutes

Social Dance (Tea Dance)

Socialise and exercise! From Line Dancing to Tea Dance, this class combines social interaction with various forms of themed dancing. Aimed at Seniors who want to keep active while and having fun! Includes complimentary tea time.

  • Duration: 120 minutes
  • Price: £4.50 (for members and non-members)

We recommend pre-booking online to avoid the queues at reception, but it is also possible to just drop in and pay upon arrival. (Please note we're a cashless centre, and can only accept card payments.)

Swim for 60+

A general swim session dedicated for over 60's of all abilities.

2 pool lanes are set up for the more confident swimmers who wish to keep swimming lengths for fitness.

An open pool space equivalent to 3 lanes is also available for those who would like to swim more casually, who need to take more frequent breaks, or simply want to exercise in the shallow end. Floating aids such as pool noodles and kickboards can be used in this area. (Floating aids are not provided by the centre, but customers are welcome to bring their own or purchase items from the Speedo stand at reception.)

OTHER ACTIVITIES SUITABLE FOR SENIORS

The Link Centre offers other activites suitable for seniors but that are not age restricted. Swimming, Aqua Aerobics and other Fitness Classes Basics are great activities for beginners or seniors getting back into exercise. 

Tai Chi Basics

Focus, breathing and relaxation – a blissful combination that’ll have you feeling better inside and out. Tai Chi is based on deep breathing exercises, slow and gentle movements for a low impact workout that’ll exercise your body and mind. With simpler movements and lower intensity variations, our Tai Chi Basics classes are great for beginners and seniors. This class involves taking things at a slower pace so you can learn the fundamentals of this ancient practice and build your confidence. You’ll see improvements every week and begin to enjoy the benefits of Tai Chi.

Aqua Aerobics

Get your body moving to the beat whilst giving yourself an energising workout in the water. Our fun and friendly water workout classes give you all the benefits of cardiovascular exercise and provide natural levels of low-impact resistance that’s gentle on the joints.

Dance Fitness Basics

Dance yourself fit! Dance Fitness Basics combines low impact exercise and choreography with infectious music to keep you going. Ideal for beginners or older adults wanting to incorpore cardio workouts into their routine. A lower intensitity workout that will keep your heart rate up and burn as many calories as a run.

Duration: 60 minutes

Swimming

Swimming is an ideal workout for seniors, mainly because it presents little risk of injury and is low impact. As a cardiovascular exercise, swimming protects against heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. Here at the Link Centre, you'll find swimming sessions available all year long, every day of the week.

SWIM FOR FITNESS:

  • Adults lane swimming for all abilities.
  • Duration: 60 minutes session
  • Availability: Monday to Sunday

SWIM FOR ALL:

  • Swimming for all ages and abilities (including families with toddlers), lanes may be available.
  • Duration: 60 minutes session
  • Availability: Saturday and Sunday, from 12pm to 3.45pm. (And extra week days sessions during school holidays.)

Gym

Our gym welcomes all ages. Whether getting back to being active or first time user, if you're not sure what sort of exercise is best for you, our team of Fitness Instructors is here to help.

A Gym Induction is included in our Better Health Senior membership to help get you started safely. We also recommend keeping track of your progress with monthly re-focus sessions.

Our gym is open every day:

  • Monday to Friday: 6.00am to 10.00pm
  • Saturday and Sunday: 6.00am to 8.00pm
