Senior Activities

White Horse Leisure & Tennis Centre boasts an extensive senior activities programme, with sessions to suit all. Not only is our senior programme designed to enhance physical and mental wellbeing, but it also offers the ideal social environment to relax and chat with friends before, during and after activities.

We support the Warm Spaces initiative, which runs in centre Mon-Fri 10am-2pm. This provides people in the local community with a free hot drink/biscuits, Wifi, shower facilities and charging points.

Chair-Based Exercise

Chair based exercise uses low intensity and simple movements to strengthen stability and balance. It is perfect for anyone starting their fitness journey, older adults, those with mobility issues or looking to build confidence. 

When: Tuesday 10:45-11:30am

Where: Party room

Come along to meet the instructor, Nathan, see if the class is for you and ask any questions. The class is £5 per session and the centre only accepts card.

This class is brought to you in conjunction with the Move Together team at the Vale of White Horse District Council.

The centres is serviced by bus 41 which arrives at 10:33am from Abingdon town centre and leaves at 11:45am.

Swimming

Swimming is available throughout the day with swim for fitness and swim for all session’s. Swimming is a great all over body work out and suitable for all swimming abilities. There are lanes in all sessions with fast, medium and slow options

Gym

The gym is open for sessions every day. With a huge variety of equipment including, resistance, cardio and functional, all ability  levels are catered for. Our friendly gym team are there to support your fitness journey’s.

Aerobics

Senior aerobics is a form of physical exercise that combines rhythmic aerobic movements with stretching and strength training to improve cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, balance, and muscle strength. It is designed specifically to take into consideration physical limitations and health conditions.

Zumba

Senior Zumba is a type of exercise program specifically designed for older adults. It combines elements of aerobic exercise, dance, and music to create a fun and low-impact workout. Classes take place in a group setting and are led by a trained instructor who provides guidance and support throughout the workout. The exercises are modified to suit the physical abilities and limitations of older adults, and may include movements that focus on improving balance, flexibility, and coordination.

Yoga

Yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual discipline that involves various postures, breathing techniques, and meditation.

Practicing yoga regularly has numerous benefits for both the body and mind, including increased flexibility, strength, and balance, reduced stress and anxiety, improved focus and concentration, and a greater sense of overall well-being.

Walking Football

Walking football is a modified version of traditional football that is played at a slower pace to accommodate older adults or those with mobility issues. Players must keep one foot on the ground at all times, and contact above the waist is not allowed to reduce the risk of injury.

Walking football has gained popularity in recent years as a fun and accessible way for seniors to stay active, socialise, and enjoy the game of football.

Pickleball

Pickleball is a sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It is played on a court with the same dimensions as a doubles badminton court, and the net is set at a similar height to a tennis net. The game is played with a paddle and a plastic ball with holes.

Walking Cricket

Walking cricket is a modified version of the traditional game, played at a slower pace and suitable for all ages and abilities. The sport is gaining popularity and is a fun and accessible way for seniors to stay active and enjoy the game of cricket.

Walking Netball

Walking netball is a modified version of traditional netball designed for individuals who may not be able to run or jump due to injury, age, or other physical limitations.

Walking netball is a fun and inclusive way to stay active, socialise, and enjoy the benefits of team sports.
